# Green Transition

Show the EU harmonised notice on the 2-year legal guarantee on every page, as required from 27 September 2026, with the official artwork in all 24 EU languages.

Directive (EU) 2024/825 — *"Empowering consumers for the green transition"* — amends the Consumer Rights Directive and the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive. From **27 September 2026**, every shop selling to EU consumers must:

* show the **EU harmonised notice on the legal guarantee of conformity** — the minimum two-year legal guarantee — prominently, in a fixed design and wording laid down by Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960;
* show the **EU harmonised "GARAN" label** on products whose producer offers a free commercial guarantee of durability of more than two years;
* stop using **generic environmental claims** such as *eco-friendly*, *climate neutral* or *sustainable* unless they are backed by recognised excellent environmental performance, and stop using sustainability labels that are not based on a certification scheme or established by a public authority.

**Green Transition** in Omnibus Owl covers the first two obligations — the legal guarantee notice and the GARAN durability label — with a green-claims check following in a later release.

{% hint style="info" %}
**The notice is the European Commission's official artwork, never edited.** Omnibus Owl bundles the Commission's published notice files in all 24 EU languages and shows the version matching the language your shopper is browsing in. Only where the notice appears and how large it is can be changed. ## On your storefront

The **Legal Guarantee Notice** app embed, enabled in the Shopify theme editor, adds a **"Legal guarantee"** link to the footer of every page. Clicking it opens the official notice in the shopper's language:

* **In a dialog** (default) — the notice opens on top of the page the shopper is on, with a link to the EU's *Your Europe* page on guarantees in the same language. The dialog closes with the close button, the Escape key or a click outside it.
* **On the notice page** — the link goes to a page rendered inside your theme, on your own domain:

```
https://<your-store>/apps/omnibus/legal-guarantee
```

The page exists in both modes, so you can also link to it from a navigation menu, a footer block, your terms or your order emails. Browsers without dialog support always open the page.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Prefer a link in your own footer menu?** Untick **Show a link in the footer** in the app embed's settings, then go to **Online Store → Navigation**, open your footer menu and add a menu item with the link `/apps/omnibus/legal-guarantee`. The notice page follows the storefront language automatically, so one menu item covers every language. The app embed must stay enabled for the notice to be published.
{% endhint %}

In the theme editor you can set the footer selector, the link's alignment, colour and spacing, and the width of the notice in the dialog. The link label, the dialog title and the texts on the notice page are edited per language in the app.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Languages.** Your storefront languages are matched to the 24 official notice versions by language (`de-DE` → German, `pt-BR` → Portuguese). A storefront language without an official version — for example Norwegian — shows the English notice. The Dashboard tab lists the mapping for your store.
{% endhint %}

### Inline notice block

Besides the link, a **Legal Guarantee (inline)** block can be placed in any template — product, cart, a "Legal guarantee" page — to render the notice directly on the page, with an optional heading and introduction. It appears in the theme editor once the feature is turned on.

### Link block for the cart and product page

The **Legal Guarantee (link)** block is the compact version: the shield icon and the *Legal guarantee* text, sized and aligned like your theme. Place it in the cart next to the GARAN cart block, or on the product page. It opens the notice in the dialog when the app embed is on, otherwise it goes to the notice page. Icon, weight, alignment, size and colour are set in the theme editor; the text comes from the Languages tab.

## The GARAN durability label

The harmonised **GARAN** label is only for products whose **producer offers a free commercial guarantee of durability of more than two years** covering the whole product. Omnibus Owl shows it as the Commission's **nested display** — the compact "XX GARAN" mark with the number of years — which expands to the **full label** with the brand, model identifier and years filled in and the official multilingual strip. The artwork is the Commission's file; only the placeholders are completed.

### The Products tab

The **Products** tab lists every active product with its guarantee data:

* **GARAN label** — the **On / Off** switch for the label on the storefront, and how many products show it.
* **Needs attention** — products whose guarantee is **under 3 years** (the label is never shown for them) and products with a guarantee but **no producer named**. Whether the GARAN blocks are in your theme is checked on the Dashboard tab.
* The **table** with search, vendor and status filters. **Edit** on a row sets the **guarantee years**, the **producer offering the guarantee** and an optional **terms URL**; select several products and use **Set durability guarantee** to apply the same values in bulk (only products without a guarantee are updated unless you tick *Overwrite*), or **Remove guarantee**.

The values are stored as product metafields (`omnibus_owl.durability_guarantee_years`, `…_producer`, `…_url`) and can also be edited from the product page in the Shopify admin. Up to 2,000 active products are checked; larger catalogues can use the metafields in Shopify's bulk editor or a CSV import.

### On the storefront

* **GARAN Durability Label** block (product template) — the nested mark with the years; a click or tap expands the full label, as the Commission's guidelines require. The brand on the full label is the producer you entered, or the product's vendor; the model identifier is the product's *Product identification* field from Product Safety, or the product title. Under the label the block shows *Guarantee provided by* and a link to the guarantee terms (both optional, Settings) and a link to the *Your Europe* guarantees page in the shopper's language — the same destination as the label's QR code. The label's typeface, Inter, is bundled with the block so it renders exactly as designed.
* **GARAN Label (cart)** block (cart template) — lists the cart items that carry a guarantee with the nested mark, so the label stays with the product through the order.
* **Order confirmation email** — the Settings tab has a Liquid snippet to paste into Shopify's Order confirmation template. It prints the guarantee for every qualifying line item and a link to the legal guarantee notice page.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Products with a guarantee **under 3 years** never show the label, even if the years are set — the directive reserves it for guarantees of more than two years. The Products tab flags them.
{% endhint %}

## The Dashboard tab

The page opens on the **Dashboard** tab:

* **Legal guarantee notice** — the **On / Off** switch, the countdown to 27 September 2026, and the address of the notice page.
* **App Blocks Status** — the same theme check as on the other feature pages: pick a theme, see whether the **Legal Guarantee Notice** app embed, the **Legal Guarantee (inline)** and **(link)** blocks and the two **GARAN** blocks are **Installed** or **Not Installed**, and click **Install** to open the theme editor with the embed or block ready to add. Only the app embed is required. The inline block is marked **Optional** (an alternative placement), the cart block is optional but recommended, and the **GARAN Durability Label** block is optional until at least one product carries a durability guarantee — the card then says how many products need it.
* **Notice languages** — every language published on your online store and the official notice version it gets, with a warning where a language falls back to English.
* **The official notice** — a preview of the notice in your primary language.
* **What the directive requires** — the four obligations in short, with a link to the directive.

## Languages

The **Languages** tab lists the languages published on your online store. For each one you can edit the texts around the notice:

* the **link label** in the footer (*Legal guarantee*);
* the **title** of the dialog and the notice page;
* the **introduction** on the notice page;
* the **Your Europe** link text and the **Close** button;
* the image description read by screen readers;
* the **GARAN captions** — the years caption (with a `{{ years }}` placeholder), *Guarantee provided by*, *Guarantee terms*, the cart title and the screen-reader descriptions.

Defaults are provided in all 24 EU languages (and Norwegian); a storefront language without one starts from the English texts. The GARAN years caption uses the wording from the label's own multilingual strip, for example *Herstellergarantie in Jahren: 5*. The notice itself is the official artwork in each language and cannot be edited.

## Where the data lives

* The notice and label files are bundled with the app in every EU language and are never modified.
* Feature settings and the texts per language are stored on your store as app metafields, like the other Omnibus Owl features.
* Durability guarantee data for the GARAN label is stored as pinned product metafields in the `omnibus_owl` namespace, so it stays on your store if you uninstall and can be edited from the product page in the Shopify admin.

## Coming next

* **Green-claims check** — an advisory scan of your product copy for wording the directive bans, per language, with a list of findings to review.
