Pelican Brain
The first-run report Product Pelican builds about your store — what it sells, how AI sees it, and prompts tailored to your brand.
The moment Product Pelican is installed it starts researching your store. A minute later Pelican Brain shows you what it found: a profile of your catalogue, your best sellers and what is holding them back, an AI Visibility Check, and three AI prompts already written in your brand's voice that you can apply with one click.
You do not have to set anything up. Open Pelican Brain in the app navigation, or follow the banner on the Dashboard.
While it researches
Right after install the Dashboard shows a banner saying Pelican Brain is researching your store, with the step it is on. The Pelican Brain page shows the same progress as a short checklist:
Analysing your catalogue
Reading your site
Ranking your key products
Checking how AI sees your store
Writing prompt suggestions
This usually takes under a minute. If it takes much longer, a Restart research button appears. If something goes wrong you will see Research didn't finish with a Try again button.
What the report contains
What we found
A snapshot of your catalogue: how many products and collections you have, the typical price range, your main categories (taken from your navigation and product types) and the brands you carry. Large catalogues are sampled, and the page says so.
Your key products
Your best-selling products, ordered with the weakest first. Each row shows the product's GEO score and the data gaps found on it — no category, thin description, missing alt text, no SEO fields and so on. Fix opens that product in the product audit on the check that fixes its first gap.
Best sellers are ranked by Shopify's own best-selling order for your online store. No sales figures are shown or stored. If your store has no online store channel (for example headless or point-of-sale only), products are ranked from your collections instead and the page says so.
AI Visibility Check
This section answers a question most merchants have never been able to check: what would an AI assistant tell a shopper about my store?
The headline is one of three findings:
AI assistants already recognise your brand. The AI could name real products or categories of yours without seeing your website.
AI assistants have only a vague sense of your brand. The AI claims to know you but cannot name anything you actually sell.
AI assistants confuse your brand with another business. The AI claims to know you but describes something else entirely — a common problem for stores whose name is also an everyday word. The report quotes what it said.
AI assistants don't recognise your brand. Everything an AI could tell a shopper has to come from your website.
Below that, How an AI assistant would describe your store is what an AI would say when it can read your public pages: what you sell, your categories, any products it can name, and your shipping and returns terms. Anything it could not find on your site is marked Not findable on your site rather than guessed.
What limits AI here lists the concrete reasons an AI would struggle — no About page, shipping rates not stated anywhere readable, a menu link that leads to a missing page, best sellers not identifiable from public content, a password-protected storefront. These are things you can fix.
Pelican Brain finds your About, FAQ, shipping and returns pages the same way a shopper would: through the links in your store's menus. If a page exists but is not linked from your navigation, add it to a menu and re-run.
This is what AI thinks, not a statement of fact. The check reads your public pages and asks an AI model to describe your store from them. It is a realistic proxy for what shoppers' assistants see, not a guarantee of what any particular assistant will say.
Suggested prompts
Three drafts written for your store: the product description, collection description and product FAQ prompts. Each draft is the standard Product Pelican prompt with a brand context block on top — what you sell, who buys from you, your voice, style rules, words to avoid and your own vocabulary — built from your real product copy and site pages.
Read the Why line to see what was tailored.
Edit the text if you like; the block is marked Edited.
Untick anything you do not want.
Click Apply selected. Applied prompts are marked Applied and immediately drive every generator that uses them.
Applied prompts appear on the AI Prompts page as Customized, where you can keep editing them or reset them to the default at any time.
If a draft could not be tailored, it is shown as Generic — not tailored and left unticked.
Likely FAQ topics
The questions shoppers of a store like yours tend to ask — sizing, care, delivery, returns, and topics specific to what you sell. Use them as a checklist when you generate product FAQs.
Re-running the research
Click Re-run research at the top of the page whenever your catalogue or site has changed meaningfully. The report is rebuilt from scratch. Re-running is limited to once every ten minutes.
The Dashboard banner
The Dashboard shows a Pelican Brain banner while the research runs and once it is ready. It disappears when you dismiss it or once you have applied at least one suggested prompt.
